Low-light performance is not identical across devices. Native infrared-capable face systems may work in conditions where an ordinary RGB webcam or phone camera loses detail.

Platform differences

Supported iPhones can use native face-tracking hardware designed for low-light operation. Android cameras and detection stacks vary widely. Mac and Windows webcams usually depend on visible light.

Improve the scene

Use a soft front light, reduce bright backlighting, clean the lens, and position the camera close enough to resolve both eyes.

Test the live signal

Before the session, confirm that the eye-open reading responds consistently and face tracking does not repeatedly disappear.

Do not infer safety

A stable signal does not prove alertness, and a lost signal does not prove drowsiness. Use another setup or stop the session if visibility is unreliable.

Night driving

Never add a bright screen or lamp that harms road visibility. Use only lawful, securely mounted equipment and stop driving when drowsy.

Webcam expectations

Older laptop cameras may introduce noise, blur, and low frame rates. External lighting can matter more than sensitivity settings.
